FIELD NOTES

How to Start an OEM or ODM Project

Prepare a brief that helps define scope, samples and production.

How to Start an OEM or ODM Project

Describe your intended user, operating environment and essential functions. Include the destination market, language, interfaces, branding needs and expected quantity.

If an existing product is suitable, identify what needs to change. For a new product, explain the desired behavior and any constraints. Drawings, an example workflow and interface documentation can be discussed with the team.

A project assessment establishes feasibility and the proposed scope. Development cost, samples, validation, ownership arrangements and lead time should be agreed before development or production begins.
